Mount Hermon “Peaks Trek” 2009

قمة حرمون، قمة الاستهتار

So what can we do?

Mount Hermon "Peak Trek" 2009

The Title: Mount Hermon Trek 2009

The Product: Peaks Trek

The Company: Responsible Mobilities

The Theme Day: 27 of September is the World Tourism Day 2009 /Celebrating Diversity”

Diversity in tourism is apparent in our Mt Hermon Trek by grouping many kinds of
tourism in one weekend:

- Cultural tourism: visiting Rashayya el-Foukhar and trying the pottery craft
activity and sleep at a local guesthouse; visit the Shebaa watermills
museum; visit the village of Ain Aata.

- Trekking: Advanced level of trekking from Nabaa el-Mghara at the
bottom of Mt Hermon (1200m) to the summit of Mount Hermon (2814m)

- The symbol that this mountain represents and the peace message behind
is very strong because it is situated at the cross border of 3 countries:
Lebanon – Syria and Palestine.

- The historical importance of the mountain for all historical civilizations and
all present religions is tremendous too.

- Solidarity tourism: and support for local populations by a tour operator (not
an NGO): All the benefits made during this day will be transferred to the
municipality of Shebaa for the maintenance of the watermills; and to the
local guesthouse owners at Rashayya el-Foukhar for house rennovation.

- We will need your economic support and donation during this special
World Tourism Day (free amount) to support these people helping them
stay in their villages, and we need to encourage sustainable development
of the Mount Hermon region, we want to say no for roads in the mountain,
we want it to stay a hikind destination no big hotels polluting the
environment.

This is the message that Responsible Mobilities wants to transmit to you. We need
you to be aware that

- Our heritage is very valuable and has to be protected by us.

- Tourism can represent economic opportunities indeed, but it has an
impact too on local heritage (natural and cultural)

- So let us make this impact positive with Responsible tourism, which if well
managed becomes a tool to support local initiatives and it is very hard to
be implemented by Tour Operators, because it needs a lot of sacrifices.

- Mutual support is needed to resist against trends and fake.
